RELEASE | SFU adds more local talent in Holden Cardinal

BURNABY, BC – The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs Hockey program is excited to announce the commitment of Holden Cardinal to the non-conference roster for the 2024.25 season.

Cardinal, from Surrey, BC, joins the Red Leafs with 3 full seasons at the Junior “A” level, scoring 56 points in 101 games with the Surrey Eagles and Coquitlam Express of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL), and the Sherwood Park Crusaders and Drumheller Dragons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL).

“We’re expecting Holden to come in and provide an instant impact,” said Head Coach Mark Coletta, “he’s got a lot of speed to his game and he’s familiar with a lot of guys in the room.”

“He’s got a lot of local ties in the community here and we’re excited to see him on the ice come September.”

“I like to use my speed and skill to make a play to the net or open up space for my teammates<” said Cardinal, who will be studying Business at SFU this fall.

Cardinal joins multiple former teammates on the Red Leafs, including Jimmy Darby, Buddy Johnson, and fellow 2024.25 recruit Alek Sukunda.
