GAMEDAY | SFU Red Leafs at Michigan Wolverines 03.05.26
ANN ARBOR, MI – For one last time, the independent Simon Fraser University Red Leafs will take to the ice to face the historic University of Michigan Wolverines.
Thursday’s game will be the second meeting between the Wolverines and Red Leafs, and the final game for the Red Leafs independent program.
Though the results may have not always come for the Red Leafs, the last three seasons put Simon Fraser University in conversations around the NCAA and college hockey. This program earned a win against the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds for the first time in 19 years back in the September of 2025, a win against the University of Alaska–Fairbanks Nanooks for the team’s second ever NCAA D1 victory in December 2025, and earned a tie against the #2 ranked Boston University Terriers back in January 2024.
"We're incredibly proud of what the team has accomplished over the past 3 seasons," says club director Chris Munshaw.
"Coaches Mark Coletta and Jim Camazzola had a vision of competing at the highest level as an SFU team, they brought together a special group of players that proved beyond a doubt that they could compete consistently at the USports level and were even able to demonstrate results against the best in the NCAA. They raised 100% of the funds independently and went out and made it happen on the ice, I can't think of many places that's happened before.
"The players bought in to the vision and everyone stepped up against all odds. It's a group of natural leaders. There's no questioning their talent and drive, they'll all go on to find success. " says Munshaw.
This program was made possible by our generous donors who funded the program, the sacrifices of our coaches and team staff both on and off the ice, the 20 NCAA DI programs, 3 NCAA DIII programs, 3 ACHA programs, 2 USports programs, and 1 ACAC program we faced, and by each of the 47 players that suited up and competed for this program over the past three years and the hundreds that came before them. It also wouldn’t have been possible without the airline staff, hotel staff, bussing and transport staff, restaurant staff, and the staff at each of the arenas we visited over these last three years, and they deserve the recognition as well for allowing this program to perform in each city the team visited.
Puck drop is scheduled for 4pm PT, and can be viewed live on B1G+.
Thank you, Red Leafs Nation.
