COMMUNITY SERVICE

Voted “Burnaby’s Favourite Sports Team” by the readers of the Burnaby NOW, SFU Hockey offers a family-friendly environment with giveaways, contests and merchandise while showcasing some of the most exciting hockey in the Lower Mainland.

Our teams are in the community throughout the season, working with local schools, minor hockey teams, community centres and charities.

Throughout the 2025 fall semester (September - December), SFU Hockey players visited 9 local elementary schools to read, play floor hockey and distribute tickets. During the semester our team also hosted the following charities at home games in order to raise funds through 50/50 proceeds, donations and exposure through SFU Hockey marketing channels: Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau, Inclusion BC, Coast Mental Health, Habitat for Humanity, BC Blind Sports, Royal Canadian Legion, Breakthrough TD1, and Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

Our team engages SFU clubs and organizations on campus regularly, including international student groups. With the creation of “My First Hockey Game” SFU Hockey saw thousands of international students attend their first games to learn about Canada’s winter national sport.
