BURNABY – The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs Hockey program is pleased to announce the commitment of defenceman Jackson Murphy-Johnson and forwards Walker Erickson and Nick Braun for the 2023.24 season.

Murphy-Johnson, a 4 year BCHL and AJHL veteran from Burnaby, spent time across Western Canada with the Trail Smoke Eaters, Coquitlam Express, and Blackfalds Bulldogs, logging 118 games at the junior “A” level. He finished his junior playing career with the Merritt Centennials where he was named best defenceman and was awarded the Ska-Lu-La Award (most popular player) for the 2022.23 season.

Erickson, another 4 year veteran of the BCHL with 164 games played, joins SFU after spending time with the Trail Smoke Eaters, Merritt Centennials, Nanaimo Clippers, and Vernon Vipers from 2019 to 2023. In his final junior “A” season, Erickson posted 32 points in 53 regular season games with both the Centennials and Vipers, and 5 points in 10 playoff games for the Vipers.

Braun, a West Vancouver native, spent the 2023 season with the Jersey Hitmen of the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) in the National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC). As a member of the Hitmen, he would post 19 goals and 23 assists in 50 games as the top Canadian scorer on the team, helping his team finish the season atop the NCDC standings with a 36-12-2 record. Braun would also play for the MJHL’s Dauphin Kings in 2022, posting 45 points in 53 games before joining the Hitmen for the 2023 season.
