welcome

Dear SFU Hockey Team and prospects,

I hope this message finds you well and ready for what promises to be an incredible 2025/26 season! I'm thrilled to share some exciting updates about our new home rink and upcoming activities.

New Home Rink - Queens Park Arena

We're making excellent progress with the City of New Westminster regarding our new home at Queens Park Arena in New Westminster. This week marks our final meeting to finalize the use of Queens Park Arena, locker room access, and confirm our practice schedule, along with potentially securing home game slots. This is a fantastic opportunity for our program!

Practice Schedule

I'm working to establish our practice times between 1:30 PM and 3:15 PM, Tuesday through Friday (Friday practices will only occur when there are no games). Please do your best to arrange your class schedules outside these practice times. Attendance at all practices is expected for weekend game eligibility. If any conflicts arise, please contact me immediately so we can work together to find a solution.

Team Selection Process

The team roster is still being finalized. While I've committed to several players, we remain active in recruiting and are in ongoing discussions with potential team members.

Upcoming ID Skates

Next week, we're planning ID skates to give everyone the opportunity to meet and showcase their abilities. The tentative schedule is:

  • Tuesday evening at 9:30 PM at BWC
  • Friday at 5:00 PM at BWC

I'm currently waiting to confirm these times and will update you as soon as they're locked in. The cost will be between $15-$25 per skate (exact amount to be announced soon). I highly recommend attending at least one skate if you're serious about making the team.

For returning players, I'm keeping a few spots open, but I want to see everyone on the ice before making final decisions. Our main camp at the end of August and start of September will finalize the roster for the 2025/26 season.

Equipment Partnership

Great news! We've secured a stick deal with Scoffs Hockey Shop. If you're interested in taking advantage of this partnership, please reach out directly to jason@scoffshockey.ca to place your order. Please note that sticks take approximately 8 weeks to arrive, so plan accordingly.

My Commitment to You

As we move forward, I want to share my coaching philosophy with both current and prospective players. You, the team, and individual players, are my top priority. I'm committed to giving my absolute best to help develop not just a winning team, but also individual player growth and strong team chemistry.

I'll be evaluating performance based on both practice effort and game performance. Practices are mandatory unless you have SFU exams or important family events. Our practices will be short, high-tempo sessions – we practice how we play. I expect everyone who wants to make this team to arrive in peak physical condition.

I maintain an open-door policy for all players. Whether you have questions about hockey, need help with personal matters, or want to discuss your development, my door is always open.

I'm genuinely excited to meet you all and embark on this new and thrilling 2025/26 season together. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Let's make this season one to remember!

Best regards,
Guido Lamberti-Charles
