Red Leafs add grit with first recruit of 2026 season in Carter Schmidt

BURNABY, BC – The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs Hockey program has added forward Carter Schmidt to the 2025.26 roster.

Originally from Kelowna, BC, Schmidt spent the last four years between the BCHL and AJHL, finishing the 2025 season with 17 goals and 39 points in 43 regular season games with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. Schmidt plays a big game, comparing his playing style to the likes of Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Bennett.

Coming from a hockey background in the Okanagan, Schmidt’s family has billeted members of the Rockets (WHL) including current Winnipeg Jets forward Josh Morrissey. His dedication to the game will extend off the ice as well as he intends to study business at SFU.
