Victoria Tops SFU 7–5 in High-Scoring Matchup

Victoria, BC — The University of Victoria (UVic) Vikes outlasted Simon Fraser University (SFU) 7–5 on Friday night at the Ian Stewart Complex, capping off an entertaining game marked by strong stretches from both teams.

First Period: Plenty of Action Early

The opening 20 minutes set the tone with six combined goals. SFU’s Gavin Bains opened the scoring just eight seconds in, but UVic quickly countered through Booker Daniel. Special teams played a role soon after, with UVic adding both a power-play and shorthanded goal. SFU answered back with two quick strikes, including Bains’ second of the night, before Jack Laser’s late tally kept the Vikes within one at 4–3 heading into intermission.

Second Period: UVic Pulls Even

The middle frame saw fewer chances but continued pressure from UVic. Owen Evers scored just over three minutes in to tie the game 4–4. While SFU generated some opportunities, UVic held more of the puck and dictated the pace through clean breakouts and effective forechecking.

Third Period: Vikes Close the Door

UVic took control in the third period, led by Daniel’s second goal of the night. Andrew Casellato and Mason Hartley added insurance, stretching the lead to 7–4. SFU’s Luke Bradley responded with a late marker, but the Vikes managed the final minutes well to secure the 7–5 result.
