RECAP | SFU 5, VIU 3
BURNABY, BC – SFU earns their second win of the season against VIU.
The first ten minutes had SFU up 4-0 with goals from Walker Erickson, Matteo Speranza, Ridge Dawson, and Max Potvin before the 10 minute mark. The Red Leafs got an opportunity on the powerplay, but all 4 goals came at even strength.
The second started with another powerplay opportunity for SFU, but VIU’s Landon Strome would put away a shorthanded marker on a delayed penalty to the Red Leafs. Despite a few more opportunities on the man advantage the Red Leafs would give up two more goals to bring the score to 4-3 headed into the third.
SFU ran into penalty trouble in the third taking 4 straight, but the empty netter from Kyle Young settled the game down to take the win.
“This turned into a lot closer of a game than we expected after the first” said colour commentator Austin Cozicar on the broadcast, “this turned into a real game in the second.”
SFU will now embark on their NCAA schedule starting next week, kicking off on October 3rd at Providence College.
