RECAP | SFU 3, TWU 4
BURNABY, BC – A third period frenzy brings the Red Leafs within one, but SFU falls to the TWU Spartans 4-3.
A tough start to the game with the Red Leafs giving up two goals in the first, with Spartans forward Mykhailo Simchuk scoring both with one coming on the powerplay.
The second would start with an early powerplay goal from the Spartans, but the Red Leafs would get their first opportunity on the man-advantage, and would earn almost a full minute of 5-on-3 action but the 2-man advantage would not yield any results nor would the subsequent powerplay opportunities through the second period as goaltender Raphael Audet would keep SFU off the board. Greye Rampton (1-2–3) would win a battle and feed the puck to Ridge Dawson (1-0–1) to get the Red Leafs on the board, but SFU would surrender another powerplay marker to the Spartans just seconds later.
A late push from the Red Leafs saw Carter Schmidt (1-0–1) pick up his second goal as a Red Leaf, Rampton picking up a goal and his second assist of the night, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Spartans would hold on to their lead.
SFU returns to the ice on Friday night to host the VIU Mariners.
