RECAP | SFU 1, Providence 7

Proudly Sponsored By

PROVIDENCE, RI – SFU can’t solve the #9 ranked Providence defence as they fall to the Friars, 7-1.

The Friars would get the early first goal just under 4 minutes in off a one-timer shot from Logan Sawyer, but the Red Leafs would keep the pressure up as the period would end with shots at 13-10 in favour of Providence.

Despite the Red Leafs getting the first powerplay opportunity of the night, the Friars would score two quick goals to extend their lead to 3-0. A pile up at the Providence net and a Red Leafs holding penalty would give the Friars the powerplay with 5 to go, where they would increase the lead to 4-0. Another powerplay marker would give Providence a 5-0 lead.

An early penalty to the Red Leafs would give the Friars a third opportunity on the powerplay, which they capitalized on to make the score 6-0, and the pressure from Providence would keep SFU down through until the last three minutes when Austin Fraser (1-0–0) would get on the board.

SFU is back on the ice tomorrow in Waltham, Massachusetts to take on Bentley.
