RECAP | Red Leafs fall to Thunderbirds in shootout

BURNABY, BC – A late third period rally pulled the Red Leafs into the lead, but 5 rounds of the shootout would be the decision maker in the 3-2 loss.

After falling early in the first from the point from Alex Serraglio, the Red Leafs would hold the Thunderbirds to just the one goal lead through two period before answering.

Zac Maxwell (1-0–1) would hit the redirect pass from Max Potvin (0-1–1) to get the Red Leafs on the board, and just 23 seconds later Tyler Chan (1-0–1) would get his first in the red and white to put SFU in the lead. The Thunderbirds would not sit back and take it lightly, as Scott Atkinson would tie the game with 4:38 to go in the third.

Overtime would solve nothing for the teams and after the teams would trade goals in the first round, it would take until round 5 for UBC’s Nathan Sullivan to end the game.

The Red Leafs will return to action this upcoming Thursday at the Burnaby Winter Club against the Trinity Western University Spartans.
