GAMEDAY | Red Leafs kick off weekend doubleheader against Trinity Western
BURNABY, BC – After splitting the first two games in the shootout, SFU keeps the action going aginst USports competition against the TWU Spartans.
SFU enters Thursday’s matchup with a 1-0-1 record after the first two games against the UBC Thunderbirds, both being decided in the shootout. Veteran forward Lucas Ceccarelli (2-0–2) and second year Zac Maxwell (1-1–2) lead the way on the scoresheet with two points each, while newcomer Tyler Chan (1-0–1) recorded his first goal as a Red Leaf and goaltender Steven Bacovsky (.949 sv%) earned his first win.
Trinity Western’s pre-season has them sitting with a 2-2-0 record, beating both the BCIHL teams faced in the SFU and Okanagan clubs, but dropping both games against UBC by a score of 5-2 each time. SFU’s record against the Spartans has been positive, with the Red Leafs holding a 3-1-0 head-to-head record since the debut of the independent team in 2023.
Thursday’s game is off-site for both teams, taking place at the Burnaby Winter Club. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00pm, and will be broadcast live on YouTube.
