GAMEDAY | Red Leafs kick off NCAA schedule at Providence

Proudly Sponsored By

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs officially kick off their NCAA schedule against the Providence College Friars.

SFU currently holds a 2-1-1 record this season with wins over UBC and VIU, but NCAA action will be a different challenge as the Red Leafs look to earn their first victory over a Division I program since September 23, 2022 (1-0 W at Alaska–Anchorage). Keys to the Red Leafs game will be the special teams, with the red and white only holding a .739 penalty kill percentage and are 0/19 on the powerplay. Head-to-head, the Red Leafs and Friars last met in January of 2024, where Providence had their way with SFU, taking the game by a score of 5-2.

The Friars will host their first game of the season against SFU, returning to the ice for the first time since falling to Denver University in the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Providence held an overall record of 21-11-5, and a 9-5-3 record at home in 2024, and will be without leading scorer Logan Will. Presumably suiting up for his first game and making his NCAA debut for the Friars though will be Roger McQueen, the 10th overall pick of the Anaheim Ducks in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.

Puck drop is scheduled for 4:00pm PT, viewers in the United States will be able to watch on ESPN+ and international viewers will be able to access the game via HockeyEast.
