On November 5th, over 600 days since SFU last played a regular season game, the BCIHL returns to the Bill Copeland Sports Centre in a highly anticipated matchup against the VIU Mariners. VIU got the better of SFU in their only exhibition matchup, earning a 5-1 victory on October 2nd, and continuing their high scoring punch throughout the preseason. The Mariners defeated the Okanagan Lakers 4-1 in their first regular season game at home last weekend in front of a rowdy crowd and will provide a tough opponent for SFU.
However, SFU will look to continue where they left off over 600 days ago, matching this year’s VIU team as one of the BCIHL’s most high powered offences. SFU had been on a steady climb up the BCIHL standings prior to the cancellation of the 2019/20 season, winning 4 straight including convincing 7-2 and 9-1 wins against UVIC and VIU. SFU has evolved into a team with blistering speed and opening weekend will not disappoint. Tickets are on sale now at shop.sfuhockey.com
