Burnaby, BC – SFU Hockey is proud to announce the commitment of forward Ian Mackey of Tower Lakes Illinois as a member of the 2017/18 recruit class. He joins SFU after spending the past two seasons playing in the Manitoba Junior Hockey league where he split his time between the Winkler Flyers and Portage Terriers, who he won a MJHL championship with in 2016.
I chose to come to SFU because it was a great school from an educational standpoint and also thought it was a great place to play hockey,“ said Mackey. “they have always had very competitive, winning teams here and i am really looking forward to starting the season.”

In 101 regular season games in the MJHL, Mackey collected 39 points (11g 28a) he also added 8 points (2g 6a) in 18 post season games. Mackey will bring a strong two-way game to the Clan as well as a net front presence with his 6’3” 180 frame. The front of the net is where you can expect Mackey to score many of his goals.
“We’ve never been the biggest team with our forward group, and bringing in Ian addresses that in a big way,” said SFU Head Coach Mark Coletta. “We expect him to be a physical presence and he has a great opportunity to be in our line-up every night”.
SFU Men’s Hockey was re-established in 2004 and competes in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League. The program focuses on competition, academics, and community service as its core values. For more information about the SFU Hockey program, please visit www.sfuhockey.com.
