Head Coach – Mark Coletta

Mark began his career in hockey as a successful junior and university player, first with the PIJHL’s Richmond Sockeyes and later as a National Championship winner at NCAA Division III Plattsburgh State in New York.

Upon graduating from college, Coletta returned to British Columbia and began his career in coaching. Mark spent one season as an assistant coach with the BCHL’s Surrey Eagles and went on to coach a number of elite rep teams at the Burnaby Winter Club, where he once played his minor hockey.

Having been named head coach of the Simon Fraser University Men’s Hockey team in July 2008, Mark has led the team to two BCIHL Championship victories and five appearances altogether in the BCIHL Finals. Named the league’s Coach of the Year twice, Mark holds the distinction as the BCIHL’s all-time winningest coach with a regular season record of 130-39-12 over eight seasons with the team.

Associate Coach – Jim Camazzola

Jim enters his sixth season on the SFU Men’s Hockey coaching staff and he brings an impressive playing and coaching resume to SFU.

A native of Burnaby, he enjoyed a tremendous junior career with the WHL’s Kamloops Junior Oilers and New Westminster Bruins and was named to the All-Star team at the 1984 Memorial Cup. A Chicago Blackhawks draft pick, Jim made his NHL debut in 1986 and went on to play three seasons in the AHL and IHL before moving to Europe, where he spent 15 professional seasons in Italy and Germany before retiring as a player in 2002. A dual citizen of Canada and Italy, Jim also represented Italy in the 1992 and 1994 Olympics and the 1992 World Championship.

He has coached at home and abroad, having held head coaching positions with Asiago HC in Italy’s Serie A, the PJHL’s Delta Icehawks, and the Burnaby Winter Club.

Assistant Coach – Sheldon Baerg

Sheldon has been working with goalies for the past 13 years. After injuries forced him to retire early, he got into coaching on a regular basis. With a degree in Applied Human Science and a love for coaching, Sheldon moved into full-time coaching while pursuing an after degree to become a teacher. He has experience with all ages, working in H1 to H4 development to University level coaching.

He has a desire to see everyone achieve that maximum potential and having fun getting there, he firmly believes in the mental and physical blend of being a goalie and seeks to have a connection with each goalie he teaches. Sheldon is currently on the coaching staff with the SFU Clansmen in the BICHL
