Simon Fraser University forward Graham Smerek has been named the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League’s Player of the Week for the week ending November 8th.
Smerek led the Clan’s offensive attack in a 6-2 home ice win over Eastern Washington University on Saturday at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre.
The third-year winger set up Adam Rossi to open the scoring midway through the first period and then scored himself with just 14 seconds remaining in the second. He capped a three-point night in the third when he picked up another assist on a Stephen Ryan finish. Rossi and Ryan’s markers represented the first BCIHL goals for both players.
Smerek was named the game’s First Star and has moved into third place amongst SFU scorers with six points in five games.
Runners up for this week’s award include Trinity Western University goaltender Silas Matthys, Selkirk College forward Jamie Vlanich and University of Victoria forward Shawn Mueller.
