SFU plays host to the Trinity Western University Spartans on January 26th, game to honor SFU Hockey Alumni as part of BCIHL Alumni Week
Burnaby, BC – The puck drops for SFU’s next home game at 7:00pm on January 26th as the TWU Spartans skate into town. SFU handed TWU only their 2nd loss of the season on January 3rd, a 5-4 win that was more convincing than the scoreline would indicate. The game served as the coming out party for spring semester recruits Jakob Kranabetter, Kyle Bergh, and Daniyal Nussipakynov, who each earned their first points in the matchup.
Two nights later, SFU would lose most of the momentum earned in their 2019 opener, as they fell 2-1 to the Selkirk College Saints at home. Despite outshooting Selkirk 38-31, Jaret Babych was the lone SFU skater able to solve Saints netminder Patrick Zubick.
The home game on January 26th serves at SFU Hockey Alumni Night, which takes place 5 days prior to the Alumni & Friends Dinner, an annual event that is critical to raising funds for travel, equipment and facility rentals for the team. The BCIHL will also celebrate a league-wide Alumni Week kicking off on the same weekend, as all teams will align their efforts in recognizing the graduates who helped develop collegiate hockey over the years.
