Burnaby, BC – SFU doesn’t have long to skate off the turkey and stuffing as they hit the ice yesterday in advance of next weekend’s showdowns against TWU and Selkirk College. With an expected return of Spencer Unger, the squad is looking to rebound from a 4-1 loss to the Spartans on their fall closeout game on December 5th. SFU travels to Langley to take on TWU on January 3rd.
Excitement is also in the air as spring semester recruits Daniyal Nussipakynov, Kyle Bergh, and Jakub Kranabetter will skate with SFU for the first time.
On January 5th, SFU returns home to face the Selkirk College Saints. SFU is 2-1 against the Saints this season, with both wins coming in overtime in exciting fashion. Eric Callegari was the hero on October 6th as SFU came back from 3 goals down to defeat the Saints 5-4 in Castlegar. Less than a month later, SFU would repeat the feat as Babych netted the winner at home in Burnaby on October 26th.
January 5th also marks the annual Minor Hockey Officials Appreciation Night, as SFU honors all officials and holds a pre-game ceremony with the Burnaby Minor Hockey Association Officials, thanking them for their commitment to youth hockey.
