For Immediate Release:
Burnaby, BC – SFU Hockey is proud to announce the first Defenceman of the 2018/19 recruit class Jamieson Ree. The Surrey native wrapped up his junior career by winning the Inter-Pipeline Cup as a member of the AJHL champion Spruce Grove Saints. The 6’2” 203lb d-man collected 22 points (5G 17A) during the 2017/18 season and added another 5 points (1G 4A) in the Saints playoff run.
“We are really happy to have Jamieson on board” Said SFU Head Coach Mark Coletta. “He’s a big, solid defenceman and brings championship experience to the team.” he added. Ree will be joining a veteran-heavy defense core led by BCIHL All-Star Matthew Berry-Lamontagna. Coletta looks forward to adding Jamieson to what already looks to be one of the strongest defenses in the BCIHL.
After coming up through the Semiahmoo Minor hockey and Valley West Hawks programs, Ree spent one year split between the PJHL and KIJHL before moving to the praries where he split the next three years between Whitecourt, Llyodminster and Spruce Grove in the AJHL and Weyburn of the SJHL. In 182 games of junior hockey he put up 15 goals and 51 assists. Ree describes himself as a “hard-working player who plays with a lot of passion, and hopes to help the team succeed on the ice.” He will be studying psychology at SFU.
