The Simon Fraser University Men’s Hockey Club is pleased to announce a commitment from defenceman Matt Krawiec to join the team for the 2019/20 BCIHL season.
Krawiec, a native of Red Deer, played 33 games with the Red Lake Miners (SIJHL) last season, totalling 13 points and 32 PIMs. Krawiec also spent time with the La Ronge Ice Wolves (SJHL), Winkler Flyers (MJHL), and Kindersley Klippers (SJHL).
The 6’2″, 195lb blueliner joins former Klippers teammates Cole Plotnikoff and Jordan Funk on the SFU squad. The trio played the bulk of the 2016/17 SJHL season together.
After a first round exit and departing grad class including veteran blueliners Mathew Berry-Lamontagna and Darnel St. Pierre, the SFU defence has ample opportunity for first and second-year players to make an impact. Krawiec brings some much needed size and what SFU coach Mark Coletta hopes will be a steady presence to the lineup.
Krawiec is SFU’s first recruit announcement this offseason. Follow the team on Twitter or Instagram to catch all the offseason news as the team prepares for the upcoming BCIHL season.
