SFU Hockey is pleased to announce a commitment for the 2019/20 BCIHL season from Connecticut Jr. Rangers (USPHL) forward Takato Cox.
Cox played 2 seasons in the USPHL NCDC conference for Connecticut, totalling 29 goals and 64 assists for 93 points in 94 games. Last year, his 49 points were enough to land him 12th in league scoring. Born in Redondo Beach California, Cox returned to the US for his final two seasons of junior hockey after a successful MJHL season split between the Winnipeg Blues and Portage Terriers. Following his mid-season trade to Portage, Cox would put up 19 points in 39 games and help Portage to an MJHL championship in 2017.
While much of the offseason focus has been on defence and goaltending, Cox brings a fresh look to the SFU forward group. The offensive forward is a natural play maker and will look to showcase his strong hockey IQ and skill in the BCIHL.
Cox will enter the SFU Faculty of Computing Science, and according to him his goal for this season is nothing less than a BCIHL championship.
Brown is the eighth commitment for the 2019/20 season following former AJHL veteran Adamu Tanaka, Surrey Eagles (BCHL) captain Ty Westgard, Richmond Sockeyes captain Matt Brown, Edmonton Oil King (WHL) defenceman Jordan Dawson, Red Lake Miners (SIJHL) defenceman Matt Krawiec, North Van Wolf Pack (PJHL) captain Justin Lee, and Richmond Sockeyes (PJHL) Assistant Captain Jake Keremidschieff.
SFU takes on TWU and UBC for the 2019 Captain’s Cup in September prior to kicking off the 2019/20 BCIHL season in October.
Additional announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
