BURNABY, BC — SFU Hockey is proud to announce Canmore Eagles defenceman Cameron Chin as the newest member of the 2021/22 recruiting class. After three years of playing Junior A hockey in Alberta, Chin returns to his hometown of Burnaby.
“I think of myself as a reliable two-way defenceman,” Chin said. “My goal for the upcoming season is to help SFU be the best team in the BCIHL and win a championship.”
Chin brings with him playoff experience, going to the AJHL finals in the 2018/19 season with the Spruce Grove Saints.
In the 2019/20 season, Chin had five goals and 25 points in 52 regular season games split between the Saints and the Canmore Eagles.
Chin put up 43 points in 102 AJHL regular season games played.
Prior to joining the Saints, Chin played with the Burnaby Winter Club Midget Prep, and played a few games with the Coquitlam Express of the BCHL and Campbell River Storm of the VIJHL.
“He’s gonna be a puck moving guy, as he can get up and down the ice well,” said SFU head coach Mark Colletta. “We want him to be mobile and make that good first pass, so I think he’ll be able to be somebody who gets on to the power play, as well.
“He’s played at a pretty high level over his junior career, and we think he can bring some upside and Junior A experience to the team that we need on the backend.”
