For Immediate Release:
Burnaby, BC – SFU Hockey is proud to announce Forward Jordan Funk as the third recruit of the 2018/19 class. Jordan wrapped up his junior career by capturing the Cyclone Taylor Cup with the Richmond Sockeyes this past spring where he collected 11 points (3g-8a) in 11 playoff games.
“Jordan has good size and and really good hands” Said SFU Head Coach Mark Coletta. “His offensive abilities should serve him well this season” he added. Coletta continues to bring in offensive talent for the coming season given the number of forwards who graduated this past season. “Coming off a championship with Richmond and a few years in the SJHL, that experience will be a big benefit to our team.”
During his junior career Funk collected 136 points (61g 75a) in 210 regular season games, including a 26 point in 13 game tear to wrap up the 2018 season with the Sockeyes. He describes himself as an “offensive player who likes to pass and shoot” which will be important to add to a forward group that will have space for freshmen to jump into important roles. “My goal is to establish my game right away, and have a successful transition to college hockey.” He plans to study Business Administration while at SFU.
SFU Men’s Hockey was re-established in 2004 and competes in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League. The program focuses on competition, academics, and community service as its core values. For more information about the SFU Hockey program, please visit www.sfuhockey.com.
