With a 10-1 victory over Eastern Washington, the SFU Men’s Hockey showed its muscle on offence. Assistant coach Tom Spencer was pleased with the effort.
“We had a mindset that we wanted to be better than the week before, and everything was good. Energies were good, the guys battled really hard,” he explained.
Now, SFU will start a three game series against the University of Victoria Vikes — the first one at home this Saturday, then a back-to-back in Victoria the following weekend.
“We want to make sure we’re doing our due diligence and having our guys prepared — mentally and physically. We had a good practice [yesterday], and we’ll be chomping at the bit come Saturday night at home.”
Spencer estimates the roster will be “very similar” to the one that played against Eastern Washington. Tyler Basham will be out with a shoulder injury. Adam Callegari is likely “still another week out.” Mike Sandor will likely not be available until at least January after having surgery on his thumb. Sandor missed Saturday’s game, after sustaining a hand injury the game before.
Both Lyndon Stanwood — who backed up Jordan Liem — and Darnel St Pierre made their regular season debuts last Saturday, after missing the first three games with injury. Both are expected to be available.
Defenceman Robson Cramer (eye) and forward Pavlo Zerebecky (hip) also will not slot into the lineup, and are out long term.
