After Saturday’s 4-2 victory against UVic, the SFU Men’s Hockey Team is hot off two wins in a row, having also won four of their first five games.
“The guys came prepared, they worked hard, and got the result they were looking for,” said assistant coach Tom Spencer of the team’s play Saturday.
Now they rematch UVic in back-to-back games in Victoria Friday and Saturday.
Forward Adam Callegari, who missed the previous three games with an upper body injury, is expected to play this weekend. Prior to his injury, Callegari had shared the team’s lead for points, with a goal and three assists in two games.
Forward Jesse Mysiorek, who was a game day scratch Saturday, is questionable for this weekend.
“We’re not sure right now,” said Spencer. “In practice, he looked fine, but spoke of a little stiffness. We’re going to have him evaluated, [. . .] we’re going to see how he feels. He’s day-to-day right now.”
Defenceman Darnel St Pierre who was a healthy scratch Saturday will likely slot in.
Goaltender Jordan Liem is expected to start Friday night, after Lyndon Stanwood achieved his first win in his first regular season start last Saturday. This Saturday night’s goalie has not yet been determined.
“We’re not going to make any commitment to Saturday right now,” explained Spencer. “We’re going to evaluate the game on Friday and see how it goes. [We’ll] make a decision after Friday’s game.”
With SFU’s depth, expect some game-to-game lineup changes.
“Right now, we’re in a really good situation, we have good numbers up front. [Brandon] Tidy’s going to stay on defence for now, with [Robson] Cramer still being out,” said Spencer. “But right now, we want to entice guys, if you earn a spot, it’s week-to-week, and it’s not just first year guys who are in this spot, it’s right through the lineup.”
Cramer (eye), forward Pavlo Zerebecky (hip), forward Mike Sandor (thumb), and forward Tyler Basham (shoulder) will not slot into the lineup this weekend due to injury, and are out week-to-week.
