PROVIDENCE, RI – The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs wrap up their east coast road trip with a rematch 8 years in the making against the #9 ranked Providence College Friars.

“We were there a bunch of years ago and took a walloping,” said Head Coach Mark Coletta, “it’s a great hockey school.”

The Friars are coming off a 3-0 win against local rival Brown University for the Mayor’s Cup. In NCAA league play, the Friars come in to 2024 after a November and December that saw the team go 4-2-3, and 3-2-2 against Hockey East competition.

Sunday’s game in Providence is the last currently scheduled game for the non-conference team until February when the Red Leafs head to Minot, North Dakota to take on the ACHA D1 Minot State University Beavers.

“For our seniors, these games are something they’ll never forget,” continued Coletta, “it might be a tough three-in-three…but these are college athletes; you don’t turn down games like this, and that’s the attitude we need.”

Providence’s list of notable alumni, while smaller than the likes of Boston University and Boston College, still include big names like Brandon Tanev, Fernando Pisani, Tom Fitzgerald, Hal Gill, Lou Lamoriello, and Brian Burke.
