GAMEDAY | First Doubleheader sees Red Leafs face Vikes, Clippers

BURNABY – The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs will host their first doubleheader of the season on Friday, September 22nd as the BCIHL’s UVic Vikes and ACAC’s Briercrest Clippers visit Bill Copeland Sports Centre.

Starting at 12:30pm, Head Coach Mark Soares and the BCIHL roster will make their debut against the visiting University of Victoria Vikes in their only pre-season game of the 2023.24 season.

Returning players including Kyle Jennings and Jack Hamilton will lead the charge as the team looks to win their third consecutive BCIHL championship, despite being two of just four returning players from last season’s dominant team.

Then at 7:00pm, SFU students will get their first live look at the Red Leafs Non-Conference roster in Burnaby, lead by returnees Jake Keremidschieff, Nick Wicks, and Tristen Cross as they take on the ACAC’s Briercrest College Clippers from Caronport, Saskatchewan for the first time in program history.

The Non-Conference team will look to impress the home crowd as they only play at Bill Copeland Sports Centre a handful of times this year. After falling to the UBC Thunderbirds and TWU Spartans in their first two games, the team will be itching to return to the win column.

The Briercrest Clippers head to Burnaby after facing the Trinity Western University Spartans last night, falling 8-2. The Clippers are also coming off a 5-1 loss to the USports University of Manitoba Bisons and a 5-4 loss to the ACHA Minot State University Beavers last weekend, who the Red Leafs will face on February 16th and 17th in North Dakota.

Admissions to both games are free for SFU students, and general admissions tickets can be purchased through the SFU Hockey online store. Both games will be broadcast on Youtube, with the Red Leafs vs. Vikes game hosted on BCIHL TV, and the Red Leafs vs. Clippers game hosted on SFU Hockey’s channel.
