COMMITMENT | Red Leafs add NCAA Experience in Net with Goaltender Kolby Matthews

BURNABY – The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs Hockey program is pleased to announce the commitment of goaltender Kolby Matthews for the 2023.24 season.

Matthews, from Vancouver, BC, spent the last four years with the NCAA Div. I Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.) Tigers, averaging a .909 SV% and a 2.75 GAA over 28 games, and an overall record of 15-9-3. His Tigers would also go on to finish atop the 2023 Division 1 Atlantic Hockey Conference standings, leading second place American International College by 10 points.

“Adding a D1 experienced goalie is to our group is a big deal,” said Head Coach Mark Coletta.

“From a coaching perspective, the day to day stuff on and off the ice from that D1 environment is what Kolby brings to the table, and that is priceless for our group.”

Matthews also brings a wealth of experience playing at the Junior A level, backstopping the BCHL's Coquitlam Express over 3 different seasons in 2016, 2017, and finally for a full season in 2019. He also played 29 games with the SJHL's Battlefords North Stars and AJHL's Calgary Canucks during the 2017-18 season.
