Dear SFU Hockey friends & families,
This year, SFU enters its 16th BCIHL season. With a new group of recruits from across Canada, the SFU Hockey club now provides opportunity for high-school graduates from a wide array of Canadian towns & cities including Burnaby, Kelowna, Fort McMurray, Saskatoon, Nanaimo and even Gabriola Island.
The SFU roster features players studying in fields such as Earth Science, Business Administration, Communications and Environmental Science. Some of our players will continue their careers playing professional hockey, but most will go into their respective areas of study. The SFU Hockey club’s mission is not only to represent SFU at the highest competitive level possible, but also to prepare these student-athletes for their careers and to become strong contributing members of society. We achieve this by supporting our players with financial and academic support through scholarships, work opportunities and academic tutoring. We also use the SFU Hockey platform to create community service opportunities and showcase our players’ athletic talents. In 16 years, we’ve distributed over $130,000 in scholarship funds and graduated over 200 student-athletes.
Our goals for this season are to break our attendance record at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre (1,600), create strong community partnerships, have all 28 players finish the year in high academic standing, and to win our fifth BC Intercollegiate Provincial Championship.
In order to achieve these goals, we must raise at least $100,000 this year for travel, equipment, ice rental and scholarships.
Donations as little as $100 go a long way.
Thank you on behalf of the SFU Hockey club!
